Tips on troubleshooting digital pressure transmitters
The following is a list of general problems with pressure transmitters and their corrective actions.
The milliampere transmitter reading is zero
Verify that power is applied to the signal terminals
Check the power cords for reverse polarity
Verify the terminal voltage is 10.5 to 42.4 Vdc
Check the open diode across the test terminal
Transmitter Communicate with Communicator Field Communication
Check that the output is between 4 and 20 mA or saturation level
Verify the terminal voltage is 10.5 to 42.4 Vdc
Clean DC transmitter power certifier (maximum AC noise 0.2V to peak)
Check loop resistance, at least 250 ohms (power supply voltage – current / loop voltage)
Do a field survey of all addresses
The mA reading of the transmitter is low or high
Confirm the applied pressure
Confirm the amplitude points of 4 and 20 mA
Output confirmation is not in alert mode (alarm option available on some transmitters)
Check if 4 to 20 mA output is required
The transmitter does not respond to changes in applied pressure
Check test equipment
Check impact hose or manifold for clogging
Verify that the transmitter is not in multidrop mode
Check the transmitter Check that the pressure applied between the set points is 4 and 20 mA, which is not in the multi-piece mode.
Check the output is not in alert mode
Verify that the transmitter is not in test loop mode
Digital pressure reading variable is more or less
Check test equipment (verify accuracy)
Check the impact plumbing for clogging or filling wet feet
Verify that the transmitter is properly calibrated
Confirm pressure calculations for the application
Digital pressure reading is an inappropriate variable
Check for defective equipment in the pressure line
Verify that the transmitter does not react directly to whether the equipment is on or off
Verify that the damping is set correctly for the application
Milliamp reading is inappropriate
Verify that the power supply to the transmitter has sufficient voltage and current
Check for external electrical interference
Verify that the transmitter is correct
Verify that the shield for the twisted pair is only at one end
