We are rapidly changing and challenging our jobs at different times, and more than ever before, management institutions have been asked to operate their organizations with purpose, sustainability and a human community. Good management not only builds trust, but also improves business performance and contributes to social and environmental integration. The recently released ISO 37000: 2021 provides the necessary tools for organizations and management bodies to behave well.
Developed by experts and trusted individuals from a wide range of organizations in more than 70 countries around the world, ISO 37000 provides a single, globally accepted reference for a variety of organizations, regardless of size, type or location.
Good management not only creates an environment of trust, transparency and accountability, but also helps to align an organization’s goals with the interests of the community and build strong relationships with stakeholders while effectively managing and conserving resources. In this way, good management lays the foundation for the long-term success of organizations and ensures that they help protect and rehabilitate the social, economic, and natural systems of the environment.
Dr. Victoria Hirst , an ISO fellow with experts who developed the standard, said that advanced organizational management goes beyond pursuing personal interests and meeting legal obligations.
“It’s about understanding and anticipating what can happen and directing action toward a specific, socially relevant goal,” he says.
We are rapidly entering a new model of management in which stakeholders demand highly effective management to guide and ensure real long-term and sustainable value. ISO 37000 is the first global consensus management standard that applies to all organizations in all countries. Thus, it can serve as a blueprint for management devices to control complexities, so that a high-performance, community-related goal can be achieved in a sustainable, ethical, and reliable manner.
ISO 37000 defines good management as a human-centered system by which an organization is run, overseen, and accountable for achieving its defined goals in an ethical and responsible manner. This standard clarifies the distinct but integrated roles that governing and management institutions play in an organization, and establishes a common language, principles, and practices that apply to all organizations in all jurisdictions.
Dr. Axel Kravatsky , who is also a member of the expert group, adds that the tasks of many management devices are expanding and becoming more complex. However, ISO 37000 helps them to do this through an integrated management framework and system that empowers all governing groups and organizational actors.
ISO 37000 was developed by the ISO ISO / TC 309 Technical Committee, the Office of Organizations, whose secretariat was developed by BSI, the ISO national standard body for the United Kingdom.
